Interactive furniture

Task and Concept

The task was to upgrade the yard in Münchberg. A new focal point for campus life was to be created, which can be used for both leisure and teaching.

To meet the different requirements, Monika Zahn, Florian Fischer and I have developed a flexible and customizable piece of furniture. Inspired by the classic video game Tetris, we chose geometric shapes that can be combined with each other.

Analysis

To determine the right place for the piece of furniture, we analysed the walking routes and the use of the campus by students.

This resulted in possible and unusable zones.

As a result, the grass area next to the administration has become the ideal place for the piece of furniture.

Shapes

There are both fixed and movable pieces of furniture.

Materials

The fixed molds are cast from finely polished concrete. The movable ones have a metal frame covered with Douglas fir. It is a weather-resistant, light and locally growing wood.

Prototype

In order to present the idea as well as to test the feasibility and scale, we made models in different scales.
